about

Vivifice Spiritus Vitae Vis is the first chapter of Servabo, a trilogy dedicated to the Trinity. At a time when an all-consuming frenzy increasingly sedates the need to free ourselves from a materialistic vision of life, I felt it opportune to call our attention back to our spiritual roots. The texts employed here, entirely drawn from the Old Testament, have been chosen for their universality and poetic power so that they might be enjoyed by a vast audience, regardless of one's own ethical or religious convictions. They describe the presence, vital breath, and action of the Spirit in the life of both the individual and the community. The music composed for three soloists, three choirs, organ and basso continuo is subdivided into three parts and thirteen chapters, with a prelude and interlude in Gregorian chant. I have employed different compositional techniques, all typical of the periods dating between the 16th and the first half of the 18th centuries, and I have paid particular attention to the relationship between music and text. The final result is absolutely contemporary, but the traditional musical context aids in the comprehension and participation of the listener.

The oratorio « Vivifice Spriritus Vitae Vis » is not simply a pièce of music calling for a large number of vocalists in performance. It is something more, something wich transcends the mère cutltural event. The work was born within a community which privilèges the essence of singing, whithout however neglecting the aspects of sonority and timbre which distinguish the Musical Chapel of the Catherdral of Lodi.

about

Accordone Milan, Italy

Lo Tasso Napolitano in 1991 was the first project to bear a clear dramatic imprint: the concert as an event articulated by both music and drama. ... more
